Website Aesthetics and More
Your website is the way you present your products, and your business, like a storefront, and it is important that you present it in a manner that appeals to your target audience.
Before you begin to build your website, choose a niche (or topic) that you are familiar with and have interest in. Choosing something that doesn’t interest you, may be reflected and your visitors may be bored as well. We always do better at what we love, and I am sure you can see that you would be apt to spend more time on something that attracts you. Same thing with holding the interest of your visitors.
There are many ways to generate automatic websites and even automatic content and updates. However, so far nothing I have seen is very unique and I guess you could say you get what you pay for. Garbage in, garbage out as they say. Do some niche research etc, and try to explore what other people are interested in (what do they search for?) and see if you can find something that matches your interests.
Once you have your niche, you will want to start building the content both on and off page. Again, here you want to exude professionalism, so be very careful to proofread and spellcheck your content. I have also read that you want to stick with a basic font. Some browsers will not display fancy fonts correctly. (Arial is best) It is always a good idea to view your site with different browsers to make sure it looks professional and is easy to read. Be sure to provide some ‘white space’ which is much more clean than trying to cram everything into the page. If necessary, create a link to an off page for ‘more information’.
A good resource for having plenty of fresh content on your site is to use articles written by other people about your niche, in addition to your own. You can find thousands of free, re-printable articles on the internet. These articles will not help your website in terms of ranking or indexing, but will provide good content for your theme and will be of interest to your visitors.
Make your website easy to navigate. Use a simple, layout with easy to find links. It should be easy to understand the layout of your site and moving from page to page should be easy. Be sure to put links back to your home page and back to the top of the page so that people will enjoy using your site.
Remember not to have so many large fonts and graphics that your site is slow to load. Nothing more irritating for the visitor. Use enough graphics to have color and contrast, but just don’t get carried away. Remember particularly the slick Flash movies are fun, but may take forever to load. You would be surprised how many people still use a dial-up internet connection.
However, the most important thing, and I have left it for the “bottom line”, is to have relevant keywords on your site that are the same ones you advertise with. Not what you think they are, but do some research, and find out what people search for and exactly how they say what that is. These must match in order to get truly targeted visitors, and/or any organic traffic from the search engines
