I have had this situation for some time with a poor soul who is trying to join our program but who has had various issues from technical to internet marketing mind bogglement. He writes long, rambling diatribes about other affiliate programs, his personal situation, etc. At times he has infuriated me as he didn’t appear to be receiving my simple instructions and we never get it resolved.

Finally I received one today with the subject ‘Need Recovery Program’ and I felt he was really reaching out for help and I don’t mean the technical or customer support variety. He is so discouraged and has tried so many different ’schemes’ only to find he has wasted a ton of money and feels he has to give up on his dream because he is inept and a total failure.

Brother, can I relate to that! Just about every point he made I could understand perfectly what he was feeling. I am really busy and planned to write to him later sometime but I knew I could not conscionably just ignore him. Then I couldln’t do my work until I responded. It came out rather well I felt, probably because of the empathy and passion I feel. I would like to share it for other lost souls who feel they need a hand to recover their bearings.

XXX, what can I say – ‘been there done that’, or something trite. Some other better things are ’sayings’. Here are a few that are relevant to your situation:

‘You can’t fail unless you quit’
‘Success is just getting past all the failures’
‘Success is still spelled w-o-r-k’
‘Think marathon, not sprint’
‘Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are probably right’

Every single person who ever ‘made it’ failed several times along the way. Don’t beat yourself up –

Here are some observations which I can share, since you have chosen to share your feelings with me, please consider my feedback.

There are some pretty classic symptoms that I have personally experienced and overcome that I sense you too are afflicted with at this juncture:

Information Overload (I don’t care how smart you are, you can only assimilate so may new concepts and strange terminology at once) You need to focus on one thing at a time.

Business Opportunity Addiction – Again this is dangerous because (a) you can’t focus on anything long enough to produce results because you are always on to the next one and the next one, and (b) the money thing.

Marketing Tool Obsession – Same as above plus stick with what is recommended by someone you trust. Realize that most gimmicks simply don’t work – The search engines want valid links and content from a legitimate business/website. They don’t like tricks that make it seem like someone is more than what they actually are.

Fear of Failure – Being self-employed and doing sales or marketing is not the same as doing X job for XX hours to get XXXX amount of money. There may be long periods where you have to keep motivated without seeing any tangible results. Marketing is a numbers game and you have to put out a ton of effort just to see a small conversion.

You can’t allow yourself to get discouraged because it is not only counter-productive but can actually be fatal to your dream.

Near Bankruptcy – self-explanatory

Magical thinking – No such thing as your computer becomes like a big slot machine and spits out cash just by virtue of the fact you threw up a website. You have to market the programs consistently and aggressively over a long enough time to produce results.

Gambling Addiction (don’t kid yourself this is gambling) Don’t gamble with more than you can afford to lose.

The Magic Matrix Delusion (the reason they implode is because everybody thinks someone else will do the work and they just sit there and wait).

There is no free lunch.
There is no magic
There is no such thing as ‘get rich quick’

Autopilot – Something many people misconstrue is the word ‘autopilot’. It does not mean there is no work or learning involved.

Take our program for example. We build you a fully-functional website for free (all you pay is your own domain & hosting).

OK this is automatic for real.
Your site is displayed on the internet 24/7*

The affiliate programs that we ask you to join (4 are free and 2 are optional and not free) will give you affiliate IDs. You give them to us and we build the site with the IDs embedded on the website.

The affiliate programs handle all your sales for you. That is they take the order, they provide the service or product, they deliver it, they do the billing or payment process, they pay the commissions. THIS IS AUTOPILOT.

All of the above does not construe that you sit out by the pool now. Your ‘job’ is to vigorously promote the website by using as many techniques as you can, OVER TIME.

There are many free ways to promote your site – and again I don’t mean gimmicks. I mean w-o-r-k. That is principally by these methods (right now) blogging, submitting articles to directories, posting in forums, all with your URL in the signature to create backlinks to your site from where these are published on the internet.

Search engine optimization of your site content, and all ad copy including all of the above, by the use of relevant keywords. F-R-E-E – NO TRICKS – NO GIMMICKS.

Well I could go on, but I will give you a break. If it is any consolation to you I have never heard of anyone who actually got anything from XXXX Wealth Package and XXXX seems to have removed them. I hear about them several times a day – always in the same context as what you wrote almost word for word. {Never got my $3000 site, could never figure out how to launch it, could not get a response to my support requests}

So my last thing to say to you is YOU NEED TO TAKE A REST FROM THIS – When I started I got so wound up and addicted and discouraged that I had to take a full 3 MONTHS AWAY from my computer. The only thing I did was answer personal emails and maybe play a few games but internet marketing, home business and affiliate programs WAS OUT OF SITE AND OUT OF MIND.

Then when I felt like I could think straight again (clue was I didn’t get dizzy when I thought of the business I so wanted and needed to start), I started in again TAKING THINGS IN CHUNKS, ONE AT A TIME. FOCUSED. RATIONAL. METHODICAL.

I am still no millionaire after 3 years but I am loving my life working from home, making enough to live pretty comfortably (and I could make more if I would just apply myself more). I don’t have the commute blues and the only traffic I worry about is the traffic everyone prays will go to their websites; I have no nasty, surly boss; I take cat naps, get up when I want. You can’t beat working at home with a stick!

–
Thank you!

Best Regards,
Mother’s Day 2006 Blog Entry

Legitimate Online Business Opportunities (and half-baked schemes) abound on the internet today. Everywhere you look you will find magic bullet, instant riches that will sprout with little or no effort, even while you sleep! Problem is they rarely work as promised. Do not lose site of how things actually transpire in reality! Nothing happens overnight without an investment of resources (resources = time, effort, money).

That’s why it is always a good strategy to join a program free, so you will have time to see all the small print in action without risking anything except your time. I would be highly suspect if the opportunity to join free were not provided. You need to test their software, their support and their documentation. Keep in mind with a business, it takes money to operate, so there may be some expenses initially, even during the free period. Just be sure you get something in return…

Try to get involved with a company that offers lots of value, so that you are not paying ‘membership dues’ just for the ‘privilege’ of belonging to the ‘hottest thing to ever hit the internet’, circa at this second in time. Keep in mind it should not only offer you value, but if you will be an affiliate, it will need to appeal to your prospective customers as well.

Free training: There are only so many ways to do things in this world. 99% of what you will pay for is the same regurgitated information that you can get for free in hundreds of eBooks, newsletters, etc. Free training should be a part of any really good program. Not just how to use their software or their member center, but actually training in marketing strategies and techniques that have been proven to work and are ‘duplicatable’; hence, these methods would work with any internet business. If the program doesn’t work out for you, at least you will have some valuable information to take away for your trouble.

Free Tools and Resources: The program should have at the very least free banners, a splash page, and sales copy. Ideally they will also provide ideas and suggestions about what tools you will need in this industry. Their advice should include a range of options that you can use with little or no money, as well as the better ones that may be afforded ideally. The key is that they are necessary and that they will work with the program. You shouldn’t be required to spend a fortune to use their system.

Due Diligence: Be sure to check around to see if this program has a good reputation. How long have they been around? Who are the principal players? What were the other businesses these folks were involved with prior to this? Can they document any claims they make of success? Is there a forum where you can speak to other members and ask them to share their experiences?

Keep in mind, however, that some people will complain about a program without giving it a chance to work, because they wanted something for nothing. Worse is if they have invested time and money and then failed to succeed. They are angry and even embarrassed by their failure. Keep in mind that because they failed, does not mean you will fail, and conversely if they succeeded, you may not. This is not to say the program is to blame, but actually our own mindset in either case.

Mindset: Do you really have what it takes to start a business? This includes patience, commitment and resources. Unless you have savings that you can use for operating expenses, and/or survival while you are starting your business, it is probably necessary that you keep your day job for a while. New businesses are usually not in profit for a while. Will this discourage you? Do you have a strong enough self-esteem and determination to reach your target goals, in spite of no tangible evidence that your plan is working? Be realistic.

After trying many ’schemes’ and wasting a lot of money, I did find a program that had all of the necessary components for one with no internet marketing experience and few resources – but firm resolve! Please visit my website to learn about this great program that has taught me (and is still teaching me) how to build a foundation for a home business.

This is the mother of all internet business opportunities in that it has given me a start in my new life (without a j-o-b) and continues to sustain me as I grow into all I have always known I could be. We are a close-knit team that supports and encourages each other daily and our leader and mentor is a person who over-delivers on every promise. I have been with him for almost 2 years, and he just keeps getting better and better. We would love to have YOU join us.Â
