Blog posting is an essential great start to an online writing career. A blog will allow you to express yourself, providing you with an outlet for your stress, which can be especially useful if you are working or in school.

A blog can also allow you to share your experiences with friends and family, and you can simply post your pictures and diary entries without having to tell the same stories over and over again. Aside from all these, you can also use your blog to sell things, organize your web pages, and even earn some money.

Thanks to the power of technology and prospecting, there are now many ways through which you can make money through your blog. For instance, you can get commissions through paid advertising on your blog or site.

There are a few ways that you can do this: you can either sell yourself offline and get brick and mortar companies to pay you to post their ads on your site, or you can join an affiliate marketing network and get paid for each click that visitors make on your ads. You can also post to blogs for a living, and get paid for each entry that you write.

Either technique, however, demands that you have a lot of people visiting your site every single day. This can be a daunting task: you will need to be able to market your site so that it stands out amongst the millions of other blogs online.

You will also need to sustain this mass of people reading your site by constantly adding to your content, keeping your content useful and fresh, and of course, never slacking in your marketing efforts. One way that you can promote your blog is to post in forums with subjects that are related to your blog posts.

If you are interested in promoting your blog and getting more people to read your work, then you may be interested in posting in forums and knowing how to go about it. Here are a few tips that you may need when posting in forums.

- Always pick a forum that has something to do with your blog. You may think that this is common sense, but you need to know why it’s the best practice for any blogger. Many bloggers make the mistake of spamming blogs in an effort to spread themselves throughout the forum and have their news spread faster.

This can be a very costly mistake: you do not only alienate your potential market, you will make yourself appear desperate and shady. This air of desperation makes you appear like a hard-selling puppet of capitalism, and in the world of the Internet, where free and open source rules, you can work against your own potential.

- Avoid text lingo and spell like a pro. You may think that your audience is young and on the go, and would not care about your spelling. However, if you cannot even spell well, how can anyone trust you to blog or post to forums well?

How can anyone trust you as a credible source of high quality information? Spell well, check your grammar, and look at your punctuation. You need to look like you are someone who is professional, meticulous, and knows what people want, so don’t risk damaging your reputation by taking the short cut. Use these forum and blog posting techniques to enhance your reach to a wider audience.

- Help people. Put your blog address in your signature, but start out by helping people with their problems. If you allow people to feel that they are important, they will be interested in you. Build your reputation!

Affiliate marketers are always looking for that successful market that will generate the biggest paycheck. Some think it is a magic formula that is readily available to them. However, it is actually more complicated than that. Good marketing practices that have been proven over years of hard work and dedication are the only ticket.

The same tactics that have worked with internet marketing in the past are continuing to work in the online affiliate marketing world of today. Here are the top three marketing techniques that will help you to increase your sales and survive in affiliate marketing online.

1. Unique web pages – used to promote each separate product you are marketing. Don’t take a flea market approach and lump everything together. It is best to have a site lazer focused on each product and nothing more.

Be sure to include product reviews on the website so that your visitors will have a clear understanding of what the product can do for them. It’s also a good idea to include testimonials from users who have already tried the product – Evidence that the product is good. Always be sure to get permission from these customers to be sure they are willing to allow you to use their names and photos on the site for the specific product you are promoting.

It would also not hurt to write your own articles highlighting the uses of the product and include them on the website as an additional page. Create attractive pages that are compelling.

Or, if you do not feel you have the skills to create pages, one suggestion to help you do this is to join a club that provides content through articles and even mini-sites so you can have one for each product or keyword you are focusing on. If you have a domain and hosting, then it is likely you can add free sub-domains for each mini site.

Here is an example of a club called Profit With Articles that will be launching soon. A club like this will provide content for pennies on the dollar compared to having articles ghost written, and as time is money, joining a club like this will save you both!

Headlines should be exciting and attract the readers so that they will want to read more, and even contact you. Highlight the benefits and features of your product. This should help your readers identify what the product or service can do for them, and they will want to find out more.

Be sure to have a call to action strategically placed and plenty of post scripts. Do not forget their power to persuade, and are especially effective for people who tend to scan from headline to bottom.

2. Free Bonuses and Reports – Offer free bonuses and reports to your visitors. Feature your bonuses at the very top of your page so it they won’t be missed and may motivate people to read on.

Always attempt to capture the email address with an opt-in form and create autoresponder messages that will be mailed to those who input their personal information into your sign up box. That way you will not lose contact with those that have not quite made up their mind, as according to research, a sale is most often achieved on the seventh contact with a prospect.

By sending your prospects useful information at certain specified periods, you will remind them of the product they thought they might want later and may take action. Be sure that your content is directed at defining the value and features so as not to make it sound like a blatant sales pitch.

Put the main focus on important points about how your product can help them or make life easier and more enjoyable. As much as possible, convince those who signed up for your free reports that they will be missing out on something big if they do not take action. There are different emotional triggers that you can use such as limited time special offers or limited quantities.

3. Targeted Traffic - Focus your efforts on getting traffic that is targeted to your product by the use of keywords. If your traffic is merely untargeted and your visitors have no interest in what you offer, they will not respond.

Write and submit articles for publication in e-zines and article directories. Locate publications that focus on your target customers so that what you have might attract them to your site. Blogging is always a great free way to promote your online business. You will also build one-way links from all of the publications back to your site.

Try to submit a minimum of 2 articles per week, of at least 300-600 words. By continuously writing and maintaining these articles you can generate as many as 100 targeted readers to your site in a day.

Always remember that marketing is and has always been a ‘numbers game’ and that only one in one hundred people are likely to buy your product or service. So on average, if you can generate as many as 1,000 targeted hits for your website per day, that means you may be able to achieve 10 sales, based on industry statistics.

Marketing requires consistent action over time to achieve the desired reesult. Don’t rest on your laurels – you need to build momentum and keep it up.

Here we are in the land of technology, and we have lickety-split fast internet connectivity. We are forever snapping in more memory sticks to accommodate the latest software.

Our website businesses are open 24/7/365. Robots are crawling and indexing our sites, directing traffic. All, undoubtedly, if you believe the hype, while we are sipping umbrella drinks by the pool, or skiing in Aspen.

Then there is all of our neat autopilot internet marketing tools and programs to allow us to make money while we sleep, without looking, or even lifting a finger. We just collect the money from the affiliate programs or the payment gateway will send it via direct deposit.

Do you know what’s missing from this picture, other than reality? Where are the people? Although we love our technology, we need to be mindful of the need to convey the fact that behind the machine is a human being –

That word ‘relationship’ starts right from your website. You want to convey that you have at least one thing in common with your visitors. Somebody is home, and you have a pulse – just like they do. You have nothing to hide and can be trusted. You are ‘up front’.

This can be achieved in part by having your picture and/or contact information on the site, and most of all by being honest and clear about exactly what you do and do not provide. Exaggeration and/or failing to meet deadlines will tend to convey a lack of credibility.

As the member support director for a popular online affiliate program, I handle pre-sales inquiries, implement new members, and provide ongoing technical support and coaching. The number one thing that I am asked in pre-sales is what kind of training and support we provide.

The prospects often tell tales of previous programs they have joined and marketing tools they bought that made grandiose promises of support. They were completely lost and could get no response from their sponsor or even the helpdesk!

People report having lost their money for a variety of reasons, but one being they had no idea what to do once they joined a program. They felt they were only important until they paid their money, and then they became non-entities who had to fend for themselves.

I like to say if a program doesn’t work, it is the user that doesn’t work the program. However, I also have to say if you don’t work with your people and build relationship – be a mentor, coach, and friend, then you are missing the point.

There are several options to provide support, including email, having a web conference room and holding training and Q&A, or being available through Skype, Instant Messenger or telephone.

Whichever you choose, be proactive – let them know you are there for them and how to reach you; when they do contact you, respond promptly. This says that they are important to you – because they are important.

Your website is the way you present your products, and your business, like a storefront, and it is important that you present it in a manner that appeals to your target audience.

Before you begin to build your website, choose a niche (or topic) that you are familiar with and have interest in. Choosing something that doesn’t interest you, may be reflected and your visitors may be bored as well. We always do better at what we love, and I am sure you can see that you would be apt to spend more time on something that attracts you. Same thing with holding the interest of your visitors.

There are many ways to generate automatic websites and even automatic content and updates. However, so far nothing I have seen is very unique and I guess you could say you get what you pay for. Garbage in, garbage out as they say. Do some niche research etc, and try to explore what other people are interested in (what do they search for?) and see if you can find something that matches your interests.

Once you have your niche, you will want to start building the content both on and off page. Again, here you want to exude professionalism, so be very careful to proofread and spellcheck your content. I have also read that you want to stick with a basic font. Some browsers will not display fancy fonts correctly. (Arial is best) It is always a good idea to view your site with different browsers to make sure it looks professional and is easy to read. Be sure to provide some ‘white space’ which is much more clean than trying to cram everything into the page. If necessary, create a link to an off page for ‘more information’.

A good resource for having plenty of fresh content on your site is to use articles written by other people about your niche, in addition to your own. You can find thousands of free, re-printable articles on the internet. These articles will not help your website in terms of ranking or indexing, but will provide good content for your theme and will be of interest to your visitors.

Make your website easy to navigate. Use a simple, layout with easy to find links. It should be easy to understand the layout of your site and moving from page to page should be easy. Be sure to put links back to your home page and back to the top of the page so that people will enjoy using your site.

Remember not to have so many large fonts and graphics that your site is slow to load. Nothing more irritating for the visitor. Use enough graphics to have color and contrast, but just don’t get carried away. Remember particularly the slick Flash movies are fun, but may take forever to load. You would be surprised how many people still use a dial-up internet connection.

However, the most important thing, and I have left it for the “bottom line”, is to have relevant keywords on your site that are the same ones you advertise with. Not what you think they are, but do some research, and find out what people search for and exactly how they say what that is. These must match in order to get truly targeted visitors, and/or any organic traffic from the search engines

Analyzing your website and marketing campaigns to see what works best and what methods benefit you the most, is referred to as website analytics. Taking the scientific approach is how the experts go about focusing their resources in the right direction.

Website analytics is studying the impact that a website has on its visitors and/or users. This could be for example, which products generate the most cash, how well your new opt-in page attracts new subscribers, which links they are or are not clicking, or how much response you get to a particular ad.

Website analytics can be done both manually, or by using different software. Many prefer a mix of those two methods. Google even has a free application called appropriately, ‘Google Analytics’.

Understanding your visitors behavior is critical to your success online. Monitoring the number of visitors, and from where they came, understanding how they navigate through your site and what keywords they searched for to be brought by the search engines to your site are examples of the analysis you need to do.

For example, if you find they do come, but they don’t stay, find out what content you could add to hold their interest. If your site says that you are an expert, or even if you have relevant information to your products, this may help. Remember, building trust leads to sales.

Advertising effectiveness is also very important so that you do not waste your advertising dollars on ads that don’t work. Website analytics will enable you to find out how your website ranks in the organic, as well as the pay per click searches. Which keywords that you use for AdWords ads are being clicked on the most and which of your products or programs generate the most profit?

Evaluating your sales is imperative. Obviously your objective is to win sales and you want to produce as many sales as you can with the highest profit. You need to know your prospect’s behavior and learn which areas of your website are most attractive to people.

If you don’t feel you are capable of making these determinations, or don’t have time to analyze your site find someone to do it for you. Choose carefully to identify a trustworthy and competent analytics company or consultant. Verify their testimonials and ask for telephone numbers of people who have used their services, so you can check their references thoroughly. Be certain to choose a qualified vendor who you can communicate with effectively and define your specific business needs.

Having clearly defined goals is the way to strategize and run a successful business. Website analytics is one major component in formulating your business plan.Â

There have probably been more articles and books written about web site design and search engine optimization than most any other subject on the web today. Well actually maybe Pamela Anderson or Britney Spears has gotten more copy but you get the idea.

When you begin to build your first web site reading as much information on the SEO subject and trying to comprehend the facts are very difficult and confusing. That’s putting it mildly. Every author has similar ideas and yet many different opinions about how a website should be designed, html coding, copy writing, and position of certain elements on the page.

Seems the more you read, more confusion and mistrust of the last article or book you read. Some are simply giving their opinion based off experience from the past and changes they expect in the future. Even the experts seem to be confused about how and why Google or other search engines do certain exercises in determining page rank and importance.

Side Note: Don’t spend all your time trying to please the search engines to get traffic. Yes, it’s free, but your time can be used for more productive ways to get visitors.

Simple, Brief explanation how search engines and online directories work! A search engine’s task it to help people find information on the Internet that is relevant to their search. The major search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN and others) have and maintain enormous databases of Web sites that internet users can search by typing in phrases or keywords.

How do search engines compile all the millions of Web sites?

They rely on computer programs called “spiders” or “robots” which crawl across the world wide web by following links from one web site to another to another indexing each one they visit. Each has their own set of rules and criteria on what to include in their respective database. Obviously each keeps their criteria secret to discourage tricks and other methods used by experienced Webmasters to get top ranking.

You can find many offers on software or e-books stating that if you purchase this one secret revealing my trick you will automatically get top ranking in all the search engines within a short period of time. Really now?

Why is a top ranking in search engines so important?

No big secret here, top ranking means more sales. Getting on the first page of search results in any major search engine especially Google or Yahoo is a tremendous feat and usually means big money to those so lucky.

Do a search on any keyword and see how many results you are presented with, usually thousands. How many pages of search results do you scan? The average person only uses the first two pages at most and that normally equates to about 20 web sites.

Web site design and SEO companies make a fortune off clients trying to get top ranking in search engines. With all due respect they do provide a great service to their clients and the more respected do produce good results, but at a tremendous cost to the average Webmaster. Most including myself or persons just beginning this venture cannot afford the expense of such talent.

What do we do?

We read, study, struggle with all the contradictions on the many different opinions and methods suggested. Still we end up on the tenth or worse page of search results if lucky with no traffic getting to our web site from search engines. Bummer!

Becoming an expert in SEO requires many different talents in my opinion. First and foremost you must possess a lot of patience. Whatever you do to improve your site will take time for search engines to take effect, weeks not hours. New sites trying to get indexed by Google for instance have a normal 3 month waiting period and only if good.

The phrase “patience is a virtue” applies here. You need to be a web designer. Be able to roll out attractive pages for your potential customers with graphics and eye-catching objects related to your product. No one wants to look at an ugly page. A balance has to be achieved in order for your page to load quickly and yet interesting enough for searchers to stay and visit for a while. Too many or annoying images can actually be detrimental to this effort.

You need to possess copy writing skills. Requires the ability to produce text that is readable and interesting plus related to your sites theme and purpose. Inserting the correct mix of keywords and descriptions that relate to your site. Too many, not good, too few, ineffective. This also involves your marketing skills. Choosing the right key words, descriptions, and text content that will give you the best results for your product or web site purpose.

If all that wasn’t enough you need to have some skill in HTML coding to make your site “friendly” to the search engine spiders or robots. Using FrontPage to design your site as I do is great, however more detail work needs to be done in the HTML coding to accomplish your top ranking site. The experts tell us that Google changes their algorithms often so you have to make changes in order to appear high in search results. They also say that all search engines are different and what works in one may not get the same results in others. Talk about encouragement!

Apparently we have to adjust and be “detail freaks” as well. Guess there’s not enough pressure already. Bet you didn’t think we would be working on aircraft or perhaps doing brain surgery where detail is a must. Seems search engines make it so difficult that it keeps the Web designers and SEO companies thriving. Why can’t we just build a simple web site that represents our company well, says what it needs to say and get good results without paying out enormous fees to the so called experts?

Problem is not everyone can be number one in search results, somebody has to be #2, 3, …100th or worse. The livelihood of any web site is of course traffic and traffic from search engines is very targeted and free. There are other methods of getting traffic without search engines but you have to admit this seems the most widely pursued because of the effectiveness.

Purpose of this page is to provide some simple, hopefully effective strategies to assist in boosting your web site ranking. No tricks, just simple search engine friendly strategies. Spider bots don’t fall for tricks and just might penalize a site using them.

Let’s start with Meta Tags:

The title tag in my opinion the most important. The title tag should include at least three of your top keywords, plus your location if your are only doing business locally. Do not include your company name unless of course it is one of your top keywords. Title should be no longer than 80 characters including spaces.

The description tag is used by spider bots for a summary of your web site and should include most of your primary keywords if practical. Sentences using keywords, essential information and a call to action. 200 characters max, keyword related and do not use words –and, or, the, it, nude, free, for, of, etc. (stop words)– or any insignificant word not necessary. Using similar text in your title and description tags using your main keywords near the beginning have been known to be very effective.

Keyword meta tag although some feel is of less importance now than before should still be used without penalty with targeted effective keywords.

Keywords should be at least two words long, separated with a comma. No more than 20 keywords maximum and 4 minimum. Keep in mind these keywords should be used multiple times in the body text therefore make them practical and related.

There are many good keyword generating suggestions on the web, this link is one of the best:Â Â http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

Body text places importance in web site ranking with keyword usage and location. Your text should include at least 250 to 300 words of simple well written English using keywords effectively for flow and readability. Keywords and keyword phrases should be used multiple times if practical.

Do not write text simply to enter keywords but rather using the keywords and phrases within the flow of your content high on the page if possible.

Keyword density too high in relation to other words can appear to be “keyword stuffing” and open for search engine penalty. Be careful.

Search engines cannot read images so place Alt tags on all. The only way a spider can read an image is by the alt tag. Another chance to place more of your keywords in the HTML. Alt tags are simple to make and will make a difference in your sites keyword ranking. Alt tag should look like this: alt = ‘keyword – keyword phrase description’ with space before and after hyphen.

Every major search engine looks for links. It is best to make these anchor text links using keywords not “click here.” If your site is about monkey food, use “monkey food” as your anchor text link. Search engines will then see your site is about monkey food. Pages are ranked higher when they are linked to external pages. If your running a reciprocal link campaign, use variations of your text.

Search engines give more weight to naturally occurring links and less to reciprocal link exchange campaigns. Links to and from your web site is a whole issue in itself and different opinions abound as they do about SEO. Just know that it is important to have external links on your web site and important also to have your web site linked from other sites.

See below a simple code format tip for your site, to bring all this together in preparation for optimizing your web pages.
*********************************************************
<html>
<head>
<title> Title here, 80 characters max

</title>
<meta name=”DESCRIPTION” content=”description here, 200 characters max”>
<meta name=”KEYWORDS” content=”keywords here, minimum 4, maximum 20″>
<META NAME=”ROBOTS” CONTENT=”INDEX,FOLLOW”>

Any scripting, cascading sheets, Java, language, etc should go here below meta tags.

</head>
<body>

Your page content, text, including your keywords flowed properly here.

</body>
</html>

*********************************************************

Search engine optimization can be very difficult for the novice at first, but as you can see above requires very little programming knowledge and may have a huge impact on your site ranking. Certainly no expert but with knowledge compiled from many sources using these techniques have attained pages ranked in Google PR4, 5, and 6 without the high cost of Web site designers or SEO companies.

My technique and philosophy is KISS (keep it simple stupid) without tricks and penalty causing methods. If all web sites were designed with keeping it simple in mind the search engines would be much friendlier and therefore much easier to work with. Find it much more rewarding to work with than against these giants necessary for our survival.

Remember if you use these methods to change your site, have patience, takes sometimes weeks, maybe months for changes to show results. After making changes, re-submit your site manually to the major search engines and wait. When I say simple, take a look at the number one search engine site: http://www.google.com , talk about simple, just maybe they’re trying to tell us something?

Like more information about Google’s recommendation for Webmasters, just follow this link: http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmasters/ very useful and informative information for Web masters.

While waiting, work on other methods of getting visitors to your site. See my Traffic generating page for more details. In reality, don’t wait for search engines, take the “bull by the horns” and go to work.

That’s my take on Search Engine Optimization, works for me, hope it works for you. This page has been posted for your use and information. Use it wisely and at your own risk. You may place links to this page, use the information, but not allowed to copy or reprint without written permission.

Do You Submit Your Site to Search Engines?

It’s up in the air as to whether it is worth it or not. Some say it is and some say if you have enough content on your site the search engines will find you. However, did you know that three big search engines have a page for you to submit your website?

So if it’s there, why not use it? One thing you do NOT want to do is keep submitting over and over. Some say submitting once is enough, some say once a month is enough, and some say about every three months. Probably less is better.

If the search engines think you are playing games with them, they will black list your website and that defeats the purpose of the submission.

When you make your search engine submission you may be asked a few minor details about the site along with the site’s URL. Google asks for a comment about your site, so make the description a good one with some good keywords.

You can submit your site to Google here: http://www.google.com/addurl

Submit to MSN here: http://search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx

and Yahoo! here: http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request

There’s no need to submit every page on your website. The crawlers will go to your home page and spider your site from there.

There are a plethora of resources and tools for the various strategies relevant to internet marketing. We have autoresponders, leads generation, list builders, blasters, classified and solo ads; we have mini-site creators, link directories and exchangers, article submitters, pingers, feeds, traffic programs, and on and on.

All of course claim to be the best answer to all your needs. Internet marketing is a multi-pronged approached. No one strategy should be used exclusively, and all of the better tools should be used in tandem.

However, some are better than others. Some are useless and some can even be dangerous. So we need to collaborate with others and get personal recommendations wherever possible. You know you can’t believe everything you read. I bet today if you did a search you would find several things that absolutely guarantee you instant success.Â

So you want to know if the company is reputable, what their terms of service are;Â what is their refund policy, do they give you a chance to try it for free, or at the very least monthly, or will you be locked into anything without seeing it first; will they give you full instruction and in what form – just a ‘FAQ’ or are there actual step-by-step instructions; do they provide support and by what medium – email, ticket desk, and/or forum? Are the strategies that they promote ethical and legally safe; are they actually effective? Any testimonials?

One of the best and most multi-faceted gems I have found is a company that has a little bit of everything above. On the free level you have access to several tools. Of course if you upgrade, as with any program, you have several more options at your disposal.

The geniuses behind this system have many years of internet marketing and technical experience behind them, and then they collaboratively worked for many years to develop the system. They have thought of just about everything you could possibly imagine. You can use it for any business or as many businesses as you want to.

Like most things you believe in, you want to share the wealth. They have a great affiliate progam and it is an ingenius natural ‘downline builder’, in that no matter what you are promoting with the system, there will be a natural association to another aspect of itself, which may also present itself.

There is ongoing training and live discussion almost continually via the web, and one can find help or even invite their prospects to hear first-hand, from the trainers, the value of the this system.

Even on the free level you will have access to a 2-person VoIP conference room for your private use. You can invite someone there to discuss in real time, your pet program. While you are there your friend can’t help notice, well, the VoIP conference room. You can have audio and visual support for your presentation and really give the impression that you are a professional, without spending an arm and a leg to do so.

If you are looking for a comprehensive, cohesive system to use for internet marketing, I think you should really consider this internet marketing machine .

This is just the beginning, and I think that you will see this program jump to the forefront, because of it’s revolutionary innovation and work smarter technology.

If you are involved in affiliate marketing, MLM or any business for yourself, having a blog is essential. But having a blog doesn’t do you any good unless you can drive traffic to it. Here are some great ways to get more traffic to your blog:

1.) Create at least four keyword posts per day. Use a service like RSS 2 Blog and create several posts at once and have them served up one at a time.

2.) Submit your RSS feed to My Yahoo and Google’s Reader. This will get them indexed.

3) Add relevant links to your blog and trade them with others.

4) Use ping sites like ping-o-matic. Ping your site every time you add a new post. If you are using WordPress, this is done for you automatically.

5) Submit your blog to traditional search engines such as AltaVista, and MSN.

6) Make a useful webam video and post it on Google Video.

7) Post a profile on social networking sites like Ryze and My Space and link back to your blog. These sites generate huge traffic and the search engines will find them and pick you up. It also gets you a nice backlink with a high page rank.

 Submit your blog to traditional directories such as DMOZ. Directories (particularly DMOZ) increase relevance with Google. DMOZ is very picky, but what do you have to lose by trying?

9.) Use software such as RSS Announcer to get your feed listed. RSS Announcer is a resale rights product, so it’s very easy to find cheaply as a bonus item or en Ebay.

10) Comment on other blogs and use track backs.. If there is a blog that you refer to or quote and it is highly relevant to your subject, leave a track back. It increases your link popularity and may even score a few interested readers from the linked site.

11.) Go offline. Use newspaper ads, public bulletin boards, business cards, even stickers to let as many people as possible know your blog exists.

12.) Add a link to your blog in your e-mail signature block.

13.) Use Groups (Usenet). Find a relevant group on Google groups, Yahoo groups, MSN groups or any of the thousands of other FREE group services and find like minded people and talk with them. Make sure your use your blog URL like it is your name.

14.) Use Forums. Forums are one of the best places to go for advice. Go to forums and find problems to solve. Make sure you leave your blog name, but be tactful about it; some forums get annoyed with those who selfishly drop a few links to their own site and leave.

15.) Tag your blog. Tagging is a new idea that has erupted across the web. Sites like Del.icio.us, Technorati and many others have a social feature that allows you to place your article under keywords or “tags” that everyone interested in that tag can see.

Although these are some of the most popular ways to drive traffic to your blog, do not limit your self to tips and lists. Use your imagination and you will come up with thousands of ways to drive traffic to your blog!

One of the most interesting phenomenon I have experienced as an Internet Marketer, is business opportunity addiction and Internet marketing tool obsession.

We are Opportunity Junkies. I have experienced this first-hand, as well as witnessed otherwise perfectly sane people becoming compulsively obsessed with the ‘kid in a candy store’ mentality. Born to Shop!

It’s like the excitement becomes the addiction! Every time you speak to them, it goes like this: ‘Hi, how are you doing today’? ‘Oh, just GREAT, I just joined XYZ.com’, ABC.com, and QRS.net, wow, I‘m stoked.’ ‘Oh’.Â

I have been rehabilitated and now tease a few of my friends about this and even subtly scold them, of course, followed by giggles or written LOL’s, so they don’t think I have over-stepped the line on what a friend may say.

I am so happy I have learned to articulate exactly how this problem manifests, as well as the repercussions, so that I can attempt to do an intervention, before they are hopelessly lost like I was. (If you wanted to kill me in my weakened state, you would just have needed to start explaining one of those 3×9 forced matrices here, and if you were particularly cruel, you would include a graphic representation).

I know how it started with me. Somehow I got the phrase ‘diversify’ in my head, and that was what I thought I was doing. The rationalization was I would find out which one works. If I tried enough things, at least one had to work.

I will have one of these, one of the blue ones, and a couple of the red ones. Now I know these are called Niches. Wow, only two months in this business and I was a real empire builder. Domains! Yes I shall be master of all my domains! Cyber Monopoly! Woo-Hoo!

Multiple streams of income – there’s an alluring, addictive phrase. There are many other tempting nouns and verbs that are a part of this wonderful world of Internet Marketing! For instance, ‘Massive action’! Yes! Make my day!  Well, I did need more than ‘work at home in your pajamas’ – somehow that was not very exciting to me.Â

How about ‘blaster’ – now here is where we are getting into dangerous territory for sure, and this one can easily translate to ‘spammer’. You can see where I am going with this one, maybe the sandbox, maybe even jail! Beware of anything with ‘blaster’ in the name.

What are the dangers of this harmless flirtation? Aside from the hundreds of dollars I wasted on memberships in all these dissociated programs, and tools that I never had time to follow through on (use), there are the reams of paper I wasted printing out every screen, every detail about each opportunity; followed by the eye-strain and a condition well-known as ‘information overload’.Â

Diagnosis: LOSS OF FOCUS! One must return to a logical state somehow. I was so overwhelmed after my first 6 months, that I just had to ‘step back’. It took a long time of just going around thinking, ‘what do I do next’, ‘where do I start’. I am not exaggerating here.

It took me a couple months of doing almost NOTHING, but I did know I was committed to this dream of having my own business on the Internet, and that is the only reason I didn’t just throw everything away and get another dead-end day job!Â

My return to sanity:Â I found a program that had everything all put together for me – a very affordable, free website, including legitimate, proven affiliate programs, training in marketing strategy, tools and resources, sales copy, and a support forum.

The latter has especially been a Godsend, in that working at home alone navigating a brave new world, it sure is good to know I am not alone. The cost was unbelievably low. No bait and switch, either, it is still the same after 2 years. This would give me the cohesive foundation to build on, one brick at a time.

I had to promise myself, if I spent another dime or joined one more program, I would have to quit a corresponding number of things in order to generate the money it would cost. So I weeded out all the expensive things that hadn’t worked, that had lousy instructions, lousy support, or that were too technical, etc.

Recovery: As I became more and more ‘recovered’, I still held on to a few pet IM tools that would surely help in my new venture. Slowly I have let them go too, but it was hard. I had withdrawal symptoms = ‘you have already spent this money over the past several months, are you just going to chuck it all’?

Then the saying ‘throwing good money after bad’ came to me, and I said ‘cut your losses already; WHY keep doing something that hasn’t worked’? I feel another saying coming on, ‘Definition of a crazy person: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results’.Â

Half-Way House: This is not to say that once firmly established I could not begin to add on more Niches to my portfolio of websites. (I had secretly hidden 5 more domain names in a half-way house) and do have plans for my network of companies that I have begun to build on slowly. However, my MAIN FOCUS is the one core program which will be the prototype for developing my other businesses in the future.Â
